Buckling Up Becoming More Popular?

Surprisingly enough, seat-belt use has gone up in America over the last year resulting in an all-time high at 86 percent. Even though the majority of states have seat-belt laws in place, there are still a few areas were seat-belt use is not fully enforced. Southern states mostly account for these unenforced area and there was still an increase in seat-belt use of up to 5 percent.

Design Challenge Entries for the 2012 L.A. Auto Show Released

As some of the world’s top auto designers present their ideas for the future of motoring, the annual L.A. Auto Show Design Challenge is one of the most important automotive events of the year. Being the 9th edition of the challenge, this year theme is ‘ultimate law enforcement patrol vehicle for the year 2025,’ and there are some very interesting proposals to consider.

Doctor Flies Her Car into Traffic While Drunk and High

The driver of the SUV in the following video was 56 year old emergency room doctor Kristin Howard, who was named ‘Doctor of the Year” at Newtown Wellesley Hospital in 2009. According to the police report obtained by the Boston Channel, Howard was drunk and on drugs when she tried to drive out of the Whole Foods Market on Washington Street on Tuesday morning.

Feds Fight to Make Collision Avoidance Systems Standard in All New Cars

On Wednesday, November 14th, in order to reduce accidents, the National Transportation Safety Board urged the government to make advanced safety technologies mandatory for all new vehicles. The NTSB wants rear-end collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and advanced braking systems, technologies which are already available by most manufacturers (although mostly an option or on luxury cars), to be standard on all vehicles sold in the U.S. market.

Massive Global Recall of 2.8 Million Toyota Vehicles for Two Defects

Toyota is recalling 2.77 million vehicles worldwide for two unrelated reasons, the first big a defective water pump and the second is a steering shaft fault, even though some models might need both defects fixed. Toyota was adamant to point out that there have been no accidents or injuries reported that relate to these two issues. So far, 670,000 cars are being recalled from the United States, 1.5 million in Japan, and 496,000 in Europe, including 75,000 from the UK.
