Nokian Tyres, the manufacturer who set the previous record in 2012, makes a new world record for fastest car on ice. The company used Janne Laitinen as their test driver who reached 208.6 mph (335.713 km/h) on the ice of the Gulf of Bothnia in freezing winter weather. A previous-generation Audi RS6 was the car that Nokian chose for the job, which provides the necessary power and grip, thanks to its 580PS 5.0 liter V10 engine and the quattro all-wheel drive system.

A three-year-long privacy investigation revealed some disturbing information involving Googles Street View cars. The investigation proved between 2008 and 2010, Google’s cars collected passwords, e-mails, medical and financial records and other private information from home wireless networks. So essentially, Google’s cars sucked in all information available on unencrypted wireless networks.

Last week, at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Hyundai unveiled its new European-spec ix35, which gave us a preview of the 2014 Tucson once it makes it to America. Hyundai also showed off a hydrogen fuel-cell electric variant of the new ix35 while in Geneva, and CEO of Hyundai America, John Krafcik has confirmed that it’ll be heading to America and will be offered in all 50 states.

According to Outlook For Energy: A View to 2040, an ExxonMobil publication, diesel will surpass gasoline as the number one global transportation fuel by 2020. While automakers continue to look for ways to improve light-duty vehicle fuel economy, diesel engines are becoming more and more prevalent, even in the U.S. The growth in commercial transportation activity, which has been notoriously popular in Europe for decades, will also increase diesel demand over the next few years.
