land rover 9speed transmissionThe world’s first nine-speed automatic transmission for a passenger car, named the ZF 9HP, is specifically designed for transverse applications and will be one of the most efficient and technically advanced transmissions ever used in a production vehicle A skip-shift function that allows for much faster downshifting under rapid deceleration will be leading the way in technological advancement on the 9Hp.

In addition to the vehicles benefiting from the ninth gear in terms of fuel efficiency, the lower engine revs will also improve comfort and reduce engine noise when cruising at high speeds. What’s even more impressive is that the 9HP is less than 0.24 inches longer while weighing 16.5 pounds less than the outgoing six-speed transmission.

“We are extremely excited about the 9HP which has been tailored exactly to dovetail with the unique attributes of our vehicles. It will add another layer of performance, refinement and efficiency, further enhancing Land Rover‘s world class abilities,” said John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director.
