After using the new Ford ST hatchback in the crime thriller “The Sweeney”, as the unmarked car of Flying Squad detectives Regan and Carter, Ford has decided to cater the needs of the real UK police force by unveiling a patrol package for the Focus ST Wagon.
The demonstration vehicle shown in the picture to the left was developed and engineered at Ford Special Vehicle Preparations (SVP) in Earls Colne, Essex, with the Blue Oval displaying the car at the National Association o Police Fleet Manager’s Conference and Blue Light Fleet Exhibition (NAPFM).
According to Ford, the Focus ST Wagon demonstrator is not only equipped as a traffic car, it also meets the latest National Policing Improvement Agency (NPAI) standard for response vehicles inside and out. Other than the police paint job among other things, the patrol car package includes an LED light bar on the roof, and a mobile data terminal (MDT) with a screen in the interior.
Similar to the Focus ST hatchback, the estate model is powered by a 2.0 liter EcoBoost turbo engine delivering 247hp (250PS) for a 0 to 62 mph (100km/h) sprint in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 154 mph (248km/h). The hatchback is priced from 21,995 euros for regular drivers with the estate staring at 23,095 euros in the UK.
“With the Ford Focus ST being see so publicly on cinema screens nationwide, the timing for this ‘official’ version couldn’t be better,” commented Terry Adams, Ford’s Direct Sales Manager for Police, Fire & Ambulance. “At the NAPFM show we displayed the car’s crime-fighting talents to police transport managers and took bookings for demonstrations.”
