VW Debuting 4cyl Cylinder Deactivation at the Geneva Show

VW Polo Debut

VW is one of the few car companies that consistently offers deisel engines in the US. They’ve been dedicated to keeping small fuel effiecient engines in as many US spec cars as they can but this year at the International Auto show they’ve shown us something a little different. In their european Polo Blue GT model VW has introduced cylinder deactivation technology on a 4 cylinder engine. Shutting down cylinders at certain engine rpm and load is nothing new as VW along with many other manufacturers have offered it for some time on their bigger engines. No one else offers this on a 4cyl though which makes it very interesting.

The new 1.4L turbo engine is able to deactivate cylinders to achieve a 60 mpg average fuel rating. This technology allows the new 1.4L engine to achieve 140 hp and a sub 7.9 second 0-60 when you need it but then cuts cylinders when the car is cruising under less of a load. It seems like VW is on the right path with this this one while others chase full electric and hybrid vehicles. VW has created something that can equal hybrid mpg numbers while matching gas engine performance. While the Polo is a European model, buyers can expect to see something very similar in the states over the next few years.

RECALL – Infiniti Q45 Side Air Bags 2003 – 2005

2003 to 2005 Q45 recall

Hold on to your seats Q45 drivers, Nissan’s recalling over 5500 cars. Nissan reports a possible problem with with the electrical connector on it’s side air bag systems. The mounting position of the connector allows small movement between male and female half can create the possibility of oxidation on the metal pins. This creates a poor electrical connection which could result in air bag failure during a side impact.

The fix involves moving relocating the connector and applying epoxy to the plugs to eliminate any movement or oxidation. Nissan estimates that most affected cars have already been fixed during routine maintenance. If you or some one you know owns an Infiniti Q45 then a quick phone call to the nearest dealership will get you an appointment to fix the problem. Don’t ignore this! It’s a free fix to a serious safety issue.

Our New Stock Video Round up

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Every day we buy and inventory new vehicles. Most of what we get is hand picked from salvage auctions along with some cars we get from private sellers. When we inventory a car we want to make sure our customers can see exactly what their getting which is why you’ll notice that we take a ton of pictures of the car and the parts. Our inventory guy also takes a full walk around video of each car as he inventories it. This lets us be 100% transparent with our customers so that they know as much as we do about the part their getting. Check out the latest inventory videos below to see what we’ve been buying.

On star opens their API for third party mobile app developers.

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

On star is opening their API for app developers. This is a big step in helping to keep On stars customer base. I believe this is an excellent move on their part, it will open a whole new world for car and mobile phone communications. This will be another reason to keep your monthly on star service plan. I actually can’t wait to see what apps they will create for it and the integration it will have with your vehicle. I’m sure we can agree on the normal apps for it like locking your doors and un-locking them and starting the car. But I wonder what kind of odd and wacky apps they can come up with. Maybe one that can track your mileage and hours you drive weekly or daily. Maybe playing angry birds on your navigation screen, while parked of course! So It will be interesting to see what the future holds for this but I can’t wait to see what developers will come up with!

Friday, January 6th, 2012

The first week of 2012 comes to a close. We’re all back to work and still recovering from the long holiday weekends. Before we head out for the weekend we’re giving you a quick round up of our newest parts vehicles. You’ll notice this list is a little short due to the holiday madness but next week we’ll be catching up and inventorying a lot of new stuff. Some notables this week were the 2 04 Maxima’s along with a really clean 05 A4 and an even nicer 05 Murano. We’ve been making really good buying decisions lately so hopefully we’ve been able to fullfill all your used auto part needs. Take a look at some of the fresh stock and be sure to let us know if you need a part.  Thanks!
